Watercolour paper in packs of loose sheets: our '35' cold pressed paper, 300gsm and made with 35% cotton, in A1, A2 and A3, and INDIGO 100% cotton paper, handmade by artisan partners in India, in 250gsm and 350gsm.
Every INDIGO sheet has a natural deckled edge and its own grain. For painting on the go there's also a book of A6 watercolour postcards.
300gsm is the standard weight and handles most washes. Our heavier INDIGO 350gsm paper buckles less when you're using a lot of water.
It has a light texture, in between smooth hot pressed paper and rough paper. It holds a wash and lets colour settle into the grain, but still takes fine detail.
Cotton fibres absorb water evenly and stay strong when wet, so washes dry smoothly and the paper stands up to lifting and layering. Our '35' paper is 35% cotton, and INDIGO paper is 100% cotton.
For light washes on heavier paper, usually not. If you're putting a lot of water on 300gsm paper, stretching it first keeps it flat as it dries.
Yes. Both our '35' paper and our INDIGO paper are sized without gelatin.
